Abstract: |

Project Summary
The study seeks to reconsider the pathways for transnational Jihadi recruitment in Syria and Iraq. It explores four main theories of radical recruitment: socioeconomic, cultural-religious, sectarian-based, and socio-psychological. The project tests each theory by evaluating micro-data based on interviews with 70 Lebanese militants who died fighting for radical organizations in Syria and Iraq (mainly ISIS) and their families, friends, neighbors, and colleagues. The interviews also include the Imams in mosques where militants prayed and officers in the Lebanese Military Intelligence with extensive knowledge on the topic. |
